Wilma Wednesday: Bored

Wilma is bored

“Do you want to go outside?” I ask.

“No.”

It’s chilly, with intermittent rain. I don’t want to go outside either. “You could chew your bone.”

“I chewed it.”

Obviously.

“You could give me treats,” says Wilma.

“Wilma, I can’t sit here and give you treats all day.”

“Great idea!” She’s ready, perky-eared and alert.

“Sweetie, I have other things to do.”

Wilma groans and lies on her bed. “But I don’t.”

Maybe Wilma needs a 4 legged friend? Just asking’ 🙂
(I know some folks will get a second one for their first)

We’d love it, but she’s what you call a “reactive” dog, and other dogs are her bane. Today we have a little sun. She might find it in her heart to enjoy her back yard and terrorize some squirrels.

Methinks Wilma might be a tad spoiled. Not that that’s bad. Why else do we have pets other than to spoil them. That’s a good trade-off for unconditional love.

Yes, and for her protection. She’s out defending us from the mailman even as I write this.

Go on, Petrea, give her another treat :).

Now that you mention it, it’s time for her pills. 😉

All of us have, in days of yore, been that kid shooting baskets or throwing a Frisbee alone—trying to angle it into the air so it’ll come back to us …

A sweet image. I know some dogs entertain themselves, but not this one.

The patterning of her back fur is beautiful. If you removed her head (but not literally please) she could pass as a new species of mountain lion.

    • Petrea - February 22, 2017 @ 11:50

I love her brindle. She’s a pretty girl.

So a cat’s pretty much out of the question too? Wilma…it’s good to learn how to entertain yourself!

    • Petrea - February 22, 2017 @ 15:17

Maybe a mountain lion. Too big? Bobcat?

  7. William Kendall - February 22, 2017 @ 14:03

Well, it never hurts to stockpile some extra nap time.

    • Petrea - February 22, 2017 @ 15:17

      She’s good at that!

This winter is testing the mettle of the best of us. I too have grown tired of chewing on bones, and I seem to have indulged in way too many treats throughout this season of downpours. Thank goodness for the use of opposable thumbs and the ability to turn the pages of library books. Otherwise I might have had to resort to sighing in boredom till spring delivers some good squirrel-chasing weather.
Wilma knows things. It’s tough enduring the waning days of the dark season. She knows.

    • Petrea - February 22, 2017 @ 15:19

I know I’m biased, but Wilma’s a smart dog. Boring days are hard for her.

  9. Leslie - February 22, 2017 @ 15:24

I totally agree with you, and with Wilma. She’s smart indeed! 🙂

    • Petrea - February 22, 2017 @ 16:45

      Aw, shucks.

You can come help me wash my car, Wilma.

    • Petrea - February 25, 2017 @ 07:39

My mother used to tell me to clean my room when I was bored. I think Wilma would like washing a car.
