Wilma Wednesday 6: Helping

Wilma, helping, hose, yard

I haven’t watered the grass in about a year, and it’s weedy. Because of California’s drought, a better idea is to plant things that need less water than grass does. I’m starting small with an area beside the house, where I plan to kill the grass with cardboard and mulch. I’ve got a nice aloe vera to plant there, a gift from a friend.

“I will dig.” Wilma stands beside me, ready to help.

“Thank you,” I say.

“I will sniff the plant.”

“That’s nice of you,” I say.

“I will pee on it,” says Wilma.

“Wow,” I say, “that’s so generous of you.”

“You’re welcome,” she says, “I like helping.”

Then I feel kind of bad, because Wilma doesn’t get sarcasm. So when she pees on the cardboard I say, “Good girl,” wondering if my horticultural plan is doomed.

You’re right, chris! She’s always way ahead of me.

Yes, your plan is down the toilet, so to speak. But you still have Wilma and all the love she brings you and who needs grass anyway?

I thought Wilma needed grass, but she’s happy with regular old dirt.

    Fortunately she’s such a cutie.

I sense she knows that, William, but I’m not going to tell her you said so.

Maybe we’d all be a little happier if we just played in the dirt now and then and peed on the cardboard. 🙂
I think Wilma is a genius.

      I have to agree, Leslie!

Ahhh Wilma! You are such a help to your Monkey Woman…

I’ll relay the message. Right now she’s chewing her bone, thus helping me relax for the evening.
